Checkmate Protocol

Checkmate Protocol is a chess variant that adds a combat phase between moves.

The rules of chess stay the same, pieces move and capture exactly like normal chess.
But after each round, both players can issue combat orders.

Pieces can:

• Shoot enemy pieces using bullets
• Protect allies using shields
• Do nothing and save resources

Combat happens simultaneously, so attacks and defenses resolve at the same time.

The goal of the combat layer is not to replace chess, but to accelerate the game toward checkmate.
Pieces can be removed faster, threats appear earlier, and positions collapse more quickly.

Key Systems

Bullets
Pieces can collect and spend bullets to shoot enemies along their capture pattern.

Shields
Your team can earn shields by holding fire for a round and predicting where the opponent will attack.

Simultaneous Combat
Both players plan actions secretly. All shots and shields resolve at once.

Zones
Special squares on the board reward pieces with bullets.

Despite the added chaos, the king cannot be killed by bullets.

The only way to win is still:

Checkmate.
